Voluntery Counselling and Testing

1. Sustainable, quality, youth friendly voluntery counselling & testing services (VCT):

Nearly two decades ago, Uganda made a historical landmark to recognize that HIV/AIDS was a major threat to public health and national development. Innovative programs for the prevention and control of STDs /HIV/AIDS have been running ever since and consequently. Uganda is witnessing consistent declining trends and or a stabilization of HIV prevalence rates assessed by sentinel surveillance of urban sites and rural communities in Uganda.

Voluntary testing and counseling (VCT) is a powerful tool for behaviour change with respect to HIV/AIDS prevention. VCT enables individuals to know their HIV status, which serves as a gateway for HIV prevention and for early access to treatment, care and support. Since October 2003 UYAAS started a youth targeted VCT center at Mengo, which is targeting to access VCT service to over 220,000 young marginalized people. This year we have introduced mobile VCT services will be offered as well as ongoing static clinic services to enable young people in and out of school have access to VCT. Under this program we are also provide other services such as testing and treatment of syphilis and STDs Management, Family Planning and other related services including the treatment of TB. more....
2. Post Test Club:
UYAAS Post-test clubs provide emotional support, including helping the client to cope with stress and plan for the future. Assessment of risks and planning for risk reduction, including the development of a decision making capacity about options for prevention. The post test clubs supports clients to consider behavioural change as a means of preventing HIV infection or re-infection and realise the dangers of having unprotected sex that could bring the risk. more....
